Jacks or Better is one is the most well known and popular of the many Video Poker variants, played with one deck of 52 cards that is shuffled before each game. Unlike normal poker games, Video Poker is not played against another player or a dealer, but instead the aim is to draw cards to make hands which have set payouts.

The game is started by choosing an amount to wager, and how many coins to play (between 1 and 5). It is generally best to play the maximum amount of coins, as the payouts from doing this are larger. Once you have placed your bet five cards will be dealt. You can then choose to hold any, all, or none of them, after which more cards will be drawn to replace those you decided not to hold, with the aim to make one of the hands qualifying for the payout. If you make one of the following hands then you will win the respective amount (if the maximum of five coins are played):

• Royal Flush – 4000 coins
• Straight Flush – 250 coins
• Four of a Kind – 125 coins
• Full House – 45 coins
• Flush – 30 coins
• Straight – 20 coins
• Three of a Kind – 15 coins
• Two Pairs – 10 coins
• Jacks or Better – 5 coins

Jacks or Better Video Poker at Purple Lounge is also available in multi-hand versions. In these the first hand is dealt to you to decide which cards to hold as normal, but after this many additional hands will be dealt, each of which will either make a winning or non-qualifying hand. Multi-hand Video poker is available in 4, 50 and 100 hand versions.

Another feature is the opportunity to double any win. If you decide to use the double feature then a random card will be overturned, and you must choose one of 4 face down cards. If the card you pick is of a higher value then you will double your winnings and have the opportunity to double again, if your card is of a lower value then you will lose your stake. Cards of the same value will result in a tie where you neither win nor lose.
